The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officially recommends the administration of a booster vaccine dose from Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna at least 6 months after the second dose.
This recommendation applies to people who are:
- 65+ years old and residents of long-term care facilities
- 50-64 years old with underlying medical conditions
- Younger than 50 with underlying medical conditions
- At increased risk due to their occupational or institutional setting
The Janssen Johnson & Johnson single dose vaccine also received approval for a booster dose for anyone over the age of 18 at least 2 months after they receive their initial dose.
