Our 2024 individual and family plans and rates have been filed with the Alaska Division of Insurance (DOI). Read on for a summary of what you can expect from Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska next year.
Standard Plans
Premera is once again offering standard plans, which we introduced in 2023. Of our standard plans, only our bronze option is changing for 2024.
In 2023, Premera and other carriers could choose to offer one of two standard bronze plans—we chose the bronze plan with leaner benefits, however, the government eliminated that option for 2024. That’s why we’ll be shifting to a standard bronze plan with richer benefits next year.
Your clients on our current standard bronze plan will receive discontinuation notices with mapping to another plan.
Metallic Plans
We’re renewing all our metallic plans on the exchange. There are no new or discontinued metallic plans for 2024.
Network
Your clients will once again have access to the Legacy and Dental Select network for medical and dental services. All plans continue to provide medical transportation benefits to in-network providers in the Seattle area. Your clients can refer to their benefit booklet for more details.
Rates
Our 2024 rates have been approved by the DOI. On average, monthly rates for Alaska individual plans will increase by 16.7% starting January 1, 2024. The increase reflects rising healthcare costs and higher than expected utilization of healthcare services by our members.
Commission
Commissions will increase to $20 per member per month starting January 2024.
