Centers of Excellence are facilities that provide good patient outcomes for complex care at a fair price. Many employer groups and health plans are using these facilities to help patients make better healthcare decisions.
Blue Distinction Specialty Care Program
Premera wants to make it easy for our members to access high-quality, cost-efficient specialty care wherever they live. We’ve worked with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and other health plans across the U.S. to develop the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Blue Distinction Program.
This program identifies facilities that offer high-quality care with two levels of recognition:
- Blue Distinction Centers “demonstrate quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient results.”
- Blue Distinction Centers+ “demonstrate more affordable care in addition to quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient results.”
These designations are visible to members when using our Find a Doctor tool. Here is a list of specialties under the Blue Distinction Specialty Care Program:
- Bariatric (Weight-loss) Surgery
- Cancer Care
- Cardiac Care
- Cellular Immunotherapy
- Fertility Care
- Gene Therapy
- Knee and Hip Replacement
- Maternity Care
- Spine Surgery
- Substance Use Treatment and Recovery
- Transplants
