January is the month for tax forms and preparation. If your clients have questions about what forms they will receive to show proof of healthcare coverage, use the guide below to help provide answers.
Fully insured groups and off-exchange individual members
By the end of January, Premera Blue Cross will provide Form 1095-B tax forms to members of your fully insured group clients and off-exchange individual clients, as required.
- Electronic delivery: Members who signed up for our 1095-B electronic delivery option will receive an email from Premera this month with details on how to access their form through their online member account.
- Delivery by U.S. Postal Service: Members who didn’t sign up for electronic delivery will receive hard copies of their form via mail.
Self-funded groups
Premera members who have their plan through a self-funded group will receive their 1095-B tax form directly from their employers.
On-exchange individual plans
Your on-exchange individual clients will receive a Form 1095-A from Washington Health Benefit Exchange (WAHBE). Form 1095-A is for members who have health insurance through the exchange.
Note:
On December 2, 2019, the IRS issued Notice 2019-63, which extends the deadline for distributing Form 1095-B for the 2019 tax year to full-time employees as required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The new deadline for furnishing forms 1095-C and 1095-B is March 2, 2020.
Despite the extension, Premera is committed to distributing Form 1095-B on time by January 31, 2020.
