Small Group News
Published February 11, 2019
All new and renewing groups starting April 1, 2019, or later with either one or two employees must attest that their group meets the definition of a small group. Groups must have at least one common-law employee who meets the requirements of an eligible subscriber.
This is a requirement set in place by the Washington Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) to comply with state and federal law. This information is required prior to issuing the group renewal.
How are we telling employers?
New groups will receive the attestation form as a part of their new group enrollment packet.
Renewing groups will receive a notification of the requirement along with a copy of the attestation form in their renewal packet, which goes out approximately 60 days in advance of their renewal date. For example, for a renewal date of April 1, 2019, renewal packets went out on January 31.
Employers will also receive notice in the next Employer News e-newsletter.
What action is required?
The group must complete the Small Group Attestation form and provide a copy of the most recent W-2 for at least one enrolled employee.
The employer should then return the form and W-2 to their producer or general agent to forward to Premera. This information is required prior to issuing the group renewal.
What if the employer no longer meets the definition of a small group?
If an employer is no longer eligible to participate in the small group market, Premera individual health plans are an option for healthcare coverage.
